Pilgrimage Tourism

Assumption Cathedral.  Vladimir Russia
Pilgrimage Tourism is not new but contentious issues surrounding significant sites never seam to go away.

  1. I cannot imagine touring Iraq. It would be more of a thrill seeking trip than for many people. However, I think that the history is incredible there. Their PR and Marketing team would have an enormous project changing the world's perception of Iraq.

  2. i concur with kaylan. when you think tourism in iraq you think... well, you don't think anything. i can't see that working out at all. no side will ever be happy with what is going on and it would never be able to be completed. in the article it said the project was haulted barely after beginning because of actions taken. the history would be a huge draw for people of many faiths. however, with all of the hostility shown and going on in the area, i cannot see this actually coming to life.

  3. After reading this article, I was concerned about the time, money and effort that Kilf is putting into tourism development. I feel like this will help the infastructure of the city, but will not have enough power to attract tourists. Perception is everything in tourism and Iraq does not bring about a positive image in a traveler's mind. Although the plans are to be finished in 2030, perceptions about terrorism, war and unsafeness reside in peoples' minds much longer than 20 years. If anything, Kilf should be starting now with marketing campaigns that shed a positive light on their town.
