Museums and Smart Phone Apps

Old Faithful
I think this article is a pretty good indication of where museums and technology are going.  Well at least the larger ones for now.

  1. Aside from the article, do you notice anything unusual about the picture?

  3. I think this article is very interesting. These new apps for the iphone are very helpful. Even if it's just finding a restroom. Showing how to get to all the exhibits you are interested in really cuts down on time wandering about the museum and potentially risking not seeing the exhibit at all that day.
Museums can possibly just buy ipod touches and rent them out for the day to patrons instead of individual audio players you can get before each exhibit.

  4. I thin the apps are very convenient especially for the highlighted tours which can help avoid wasting time in a big place like that. It provides a step by step basis and a tracker of where you have been so you don't relapse. It's also nice to have the audio to go with the tour if your in the back of the tour and can't hear. It's pretty cool that you can even locate a bathroom through this application as well. Those trees look like the have taken pretty bad beating in that picture as well.

  5. our society is definately moving more towards cell phone apps. there's an app for just about everything these days. it was only a matter of time there would be some for museums. it is probably better than the headsets and whatnot that most musuems have. you can go at your own pace and wherever you want without having to go on a set pattern. it'll absolutely catch on.
